Annual Dennis McCormick Memorial Road Race
2016 Race Registration will be available starting July 4th on Active.com!
Hundreds of registered runners & walkers enjoyed the good weather and challenged themselves to complete the 19th Annual Dennis McCormick Memorial 5k Road Race in August. The race is held each Fall to honor Mr. McCormick, an area youth running coach who died from cancer.
The "DMR" Dennis McCormick Road Race is the sole fundraiser for the Collins Hill High School Cross Country and Track & Field teams, and sponsors from community businesses & families really turn out to support the Eagles. "We receive a small budget from the school. But for the most part, we finance our program from external sources" explained Marvia Lyke, club treasurer.
Started in 1997, the Dennis McCormick Road Race has become a tradition offering local runners a challenging course or some friendly competition. Runners of all ages, including high school, college bound, church groups, teams of friends, and entire families take to the streets to make this a competitive yet fun race. And certainly if a nice early morning stroll is more your speed, you can participate in the mile fun run/walk, waving to friendly, supportive friends & neighbors along the way.
"Anybody who's interested in a great run is invited," Collins Hill cross country coach Andrew "Huddy" Hudson said. "It's a lot of fun and it's a great race for the local community. I myself would run, but in addition to having my race director duties, I don't really like to get beat by the occasional surprise freshman phenom. Hey, was that on the record...??"
The race begins in front of Collins Hill High School and surges down Taylor Road, before weaving back up through the Richland community, with a fast downhill finish at the Collins Hill High School track.
We do hope to see you this Fall. The 2016 DMR is tentatively slated for Saturday, August 06, 2016. It's The Last Party of Summer, just before the start of school on Monday, August 08, 2016.
